Back in the Saddle

Yes. Hour 87 of a 90 hour week. At that point the most humane thing is indeed to wrap a person up in a paper suit. Shield them within a protective tyvek, polycarbonate shield, filter their air through a pair of fancy carbon cartridges and set them free, protected, we hope, from the dual mists of low pressure paint and high pressure fatigue.

But it wasn't always that way. There were earlier times. When the site looked worse and the men looked better. Fresh. Confident. Jovial even...

Positively fuzzy with jovialiciousness...did I mention the site at one time looked worse?

Parts of it much worse...?

The saddest part of this photo is the excitement with which we greeted this sight. An actual, working toilet on the job? Amazing.

Disgusting? Yes. But available.

Like a few of my friends on this job...

The basic situation going into this job was this: a computer graphics company that animates commercials landed not just another multimillion dollar ad, they landed a whole campaign for a soda company, with new characters, short film/ads that will show before movies and a whole slew of other stuff that will be annoying the tar out of you by the end of the year. So, this decision was made in the first week of December. They rented a vacant storefront down the street in mid December, had some archihack half-ass some plans, and gave us the job the week before Christmas, just as we all left for the hinterlands and friends and family and cookies in themed shapes.

It was a pretty straightforward job with just one catch; they needed to have 20 new animators sitting at computers feeding a fully operational, centralized, climate controlled server room by January 15th. We would be back on January 2nd.

And I may be out of my mind, because that was when I really started to get interested.

Welcome back, you were sorely missed!

"Operational, centralized, climate controlled"...achieving these goals does not mean it's finished.

    What's left?

Lord help me, I have to ask...where DO you throw the paper?

Was the bathroom gutted, enlarged and upgraded to include stalls and several sinks, or was it left as is(shudder)?

  8. Thanks Ano. It's nice to know I'm not alone in the web world, if one can be.

It took me only two days to shovel out from the blizard. More expected this weekend. Now this is winter!

Ditto, I miss Don's podcasts too!
